In the last two years our advisory groups have helped us to understand what educators need, how they use our resources in the classroom and how we can help them engage and challenge students. Educators can apply to two cohorts – Teacher Ambassadors and Council of Educators – which have different levels of responsibilities and compensation. The deadline to apply is Monday, Jan. 5.
Here are five reasons educators should apply for Retro Report’s Teacher Advisory Groups:
Your voice matters
When was the last time someone tapped into your expertise as an educator? Our advisors are our most dependable sounding board for new ideas, and their input is crucial in helping to identify classroom challenges. We need your voice.
Your needs matter
We are eager to hear about what teachers need in the classroom. A great example is our new (and forthcoming) films that examine Native American history. Resources from our films on federally run boarding schools and a recent Supreme Court ruling on the Indian Child Welfare Act are two examples of how we responded when teachers told us what they needed.
Your students matter
We recently visited David Kendrick’s classroom in Loganville, Ga., and spoke with students in his Advanced Government class. Jesse, 16, said he never really cared about news before. Now, he says, “every time I watch Retro Report videos I wonder what’s happening right now. I started to look into a lot more news outlets so I understand what’s going on in the world.” In 2024, we will continue to create engaging and useful materials that build critical thinking and media literacy skills.
Your time matters
We know teachers are busy. Serving as a Retro Report Ambassador or Council of Educators member is not an all-encompassing task. We meet virtually a handful of times during the year to give members a peek at resources we are preparing. We donโt ask for a lot of your time.
Your pocketbook matters
Or maybe itโs a purse, wallet or Venmo account. Retro Reportโs desire to add to your bankroll remains. We donโt offer a life-changing sum of money, but we hope that the stipend we offer for working with us lets you know that we value your time and expertise.
