Nearly 50 years after the end of the Vietnam War, the death toll is still rising. Land mines remaining in the soil continue to maim civilians, hamper agricultural development and influence foreign policy. This issue received international attention when the late Diana, Princess of Wales, highlighted the problem during a well-documented walk in Angola in 1997. An effective solution to this problem has been elusive.
