Lesson Plan: Civics Skills: Writing To Elected Officials
Students in Queens identified an issue in their community and planned an event to take action. In the process, they identified the issue, planned a community event and debriefed about the lessons they learned. It doesnโt always take an event to raise awareness and alert decisionmakers to important issues. Sometimes something simple as a letter can spur action. The right to petition the government is guaranteed in the First Amendment.
