
Richard Tofel, currently a distinguished visiting fellow at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, was the founding general manager of ProPublica and its president from 2013 until September 2021. During the period of his business leadership, ProPublica won six Pulitzer Prizes and was recognized repeatedly with many other prestigious awards for achievements in journalism. Tofel was previously the assistant publisher of The Wall Street Journal. Prior to ProPublica, he served as vice president, general counsel and secretary of the Rockefeller Foundation. He is a board member and advisor to groundbreaking media organizations. Tofel is a graduate of Harvard College, Harvard Law School and the Harvard Kennedy School.
