Lesson Plan: Remembering 9/11: What Survivors’ Stories Tell Us
On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, dozens of children were playing and eating breakfast at the Children’s Discovery Center at the World Trade Center when a plane roared overhead and struck the North Tower. What followed was a frantic evacuation through Lower Manhattan as teachers carried babies, held children by the hand and improvised ways to keep everyone moving while the twin towers burned and collapsed nearby. In this lesson, students will examine the experiences of survivors to contextualize their accounts and connect them to a historical understanding of the event.
