Lesson Plan: Population Policies Around the World
In the mid-20th century, some scientists and policymakers warned that rapid population growth could outpace the worldโs resources, leading to widespread famine and social unrest. Environmental scientist Paul Ehrlichโs 1968 book โThe Population Bombโ helped popularize these fears and inspired the Zero Population Growth movement, which urged families to limit the number of children they had. Today, concerns about population trends have shifted. Many countries now face the opposite challenge: aging populations and declining birth rates that strain economies and social systems.
