Natural disasters are destructive events caused by natural forces and processes on Earth that can lead to loss of life, population displacement, infrastructure damage, and harm to the environment. Although they can occur anywhere, some types are more common in specific regions. These events may stem from weather and climate patterns or from movement within Earth’s crust. Understanding how natural disasters form and how they affect communities helps improve prediction, preparedness, response and mitigation.
