This video explores a drastic decrease in the honeybee population from parasitic mites, exhaustion from overwork and the mysterious appearance of an ailment known as colony collapse disorder. Students will examine the interconnectedness of the human world and the bee population and discover the important role that bees play in the food chain, some of the problems facing this essential species and ways that humans are attempting to protect and propagate bee hives. In this lesson, students will review figurative language and perspective and write a creative piece that incorporates the information they gained from the video.
