Teacher Fellowship: Engaging With Revolutionary History

Engaging With Revolutionary History is a Retro Report project that seeks to provide professional learning opportunities in U.S. History and Civics to educators from predominantly rural and remote locations. This three-year program will serve up to 50 teachers and provide access to high-quality resources and pedagogical practices, along with workshop sessions with scholars and teacher leaders. This project is funded, in part, through an American History and Civics – National Activities Grant through the U.S. Department of Education. 

Retro Report is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to creating trusted documentary videos and classroom resources. Our more than 300 videos and lessons connect the past to the present, fostering engagement and critical thinking skills. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend monthly Saturday virtual workshops (Jan-Apr, 2026; Aug, 2026-Apr, 2027; Aug, 2027-Apr, 2028)
  • Attend Summer Workshops on-site each year (likely in July of 2026, 2027, 2028)
  • Complete coursework requirements for graduate credit 

Benefits include:

  • Yearly $1,000 stipend
  • Paid travel for Summer Workshops (tentatively scheduled for TX, CA, PA)
  • 1 graduate credit each year (granted through Minnesota State University-Mankato)
  • Access and training with high-quality instructional resources and notable scholars & historians

Eligible educators include:

  • Currently an active classroom teacher in the United States
  • Course load includes U.S. History and/or Civics and Government
  • Preference will be given to teachers that fit into one or more of the following categories:
    • Teach in a rural or remote area
    • Lack access to high-quality professional learning opportunities
    • Are early career educators without specialized training in History or Civics

NOTE: Applications close on Friday, December 12th. Applicants will be notified by Friday, December 19th — and monthly workshops begin on Saturday, January 17th.
