Retro Report seeks an educator who is passionate about history, social studies and civics to join our team. As the professional development manager your responsibilities will be three-fold: facilitate professional development sessions including training freelancers when needed, design and develop our professional development offerings along with our Head of Education, initiate and foster relationships with district decision makers in an effort to scale the number of districts that use Retro Report’s professional development offering across the country.
Retro Report is a nonprofit news organization whose mission is to bring history to life and demonstrate how it is relevant to students’ lives today. Our work offers new perspectives, inspires critical thinking and engages students in deep discussion, building skills that will last well beyond their time in the classroom.
In this position, you will report to the Head of Education and work closely with the Head of Strategy and Partnerships to project manage, execute and grow Retro Report’s professional development line of business. You will be the lead professional development facilitator, represent the voice of school district leaders within our organization, and help adapt and expand Retro Report’s programming to meet professional development needs of states and districts at the 6-12 grade level.
This is a full-time position. Retro Report is based in New York City, but candidates living remotely who are willing to travel on a regular basis will be considered.
Three Core Areas of Responsibilities:
Project manager and lead facilitator for two professional learning grant projects
- Facilitate training and professionals development sessions
- Maintain schedule of activities, track costs, contribute to grant reporting
- Lead monthly Saturday training sessions throughout 2026
- Coordinate activities with internal and external stakeholders and partners (including universities and museums)
Build out Retro Report’s professional learning offering, customizing for curriculum and districts needs; Facilitate district training
- Develop new sessions for full and half-day PD offerings for districts both virtual and in person
- Conduct 12-15 district-level professional learning sessions in year 1 (through existing grant programs and district-level offerings)
- Make recommendations on how to increase capacity as demand grows (e.g development of a train the trainer model)
- Conduct quarterly virtual PD sessions that highlight Retro Report materials
Foster relationships with state, regional and district leaders who make decisions about professional development for grades 6-12 across the United States
- Introduce Retro Report and our professional learning offerings to these leaders and collect feedback so we can customize our offerings to meet their needs and budgets
- Create relationships with 10-20 district leaders during year one
Requirements:
- Five or more years of classroom teaching experience in grades 6-12
- Master’s degree preferred
- Excellent project management skills and attention to detail
- Experience in professional development planning and training
- Experience with selling professional development to districts
- Experience as a content specialist in social studies, history and/or civics
- Excellent oral written communications and presentation skills
- High degree of competence using digital resources, ed tech tools and products
- Track record of building relationships with district and state decision makers
- Familiarity with Retro Report’s mission and host of resources at RetroReport.org
- Travel required: 25%-50% of the time
Salary Range: $80,000 to $100,000
