A new documentary by Insider and Type Investigations looks at parental alienation, an unproven theory pioneered in the 1980s by a psychiatrist, Dr. Richard Gardner, who argued that in some contentious divorces, mothers were inducing children to accuse their fathers of abuse in an attempt to win custody. This film explores how proponents of this theory have convinced family court judges to order children into  experimental reunification programs. The therapists claim their programs can repair broken parent-child relationships, but critics say they are based on junk science and have traumatized children. Now families are speaking out.
